PULSE Contemporary Art Fair announces the ninth edition of PULSE New York, from May 8th-11th at The Metropolitan Pavilion. Under the direction of Helen Toomer, newly appointed Director, PULSE will present a revitalized platform for discovering contemporary art and demonstrate its commitment to the exchange of ideas from pioneering and seasoned artists.
Ms. Toomer will steward the transformation by concentrating on curated exhibitions and redeveloped programming. She aims to enhance the quality of the visitor experience, cultivate an ardent and immersed community, and increase artwork acquisitions.
”I am very excited about the changes that we are making to the look, feel, and energy of the fair. I have redesigned the landscape and scaled down the physicality of PULSE New York so the audience has a chance to really engage, re-contextualize, and not be overwhelmed by what is in front of them,” comments Ms. Toomer. “This upcoming edition in New York presents an opportunity to reinvigorate PULSE’s foundation of quality and discovery, characteristics that were established nearly 10 years ago.”
Approximately 50 international exhibitors will present an intentional variety of artworks that span genres from photography and mixed media to film and performance art within the venue’s 28,000 square-feet.
IMPULSE, which has traditionally been limited to solo presentations will now serve as an invitational platform for emerging galleries and be integrated within the main fair to catalyze connectivity amongst exhibitors and foster a kinetic atmosphere for the audience. Also inaugural to PULSE New York is POINTS, a presentation of curated content by the fair’s Director highlighting the work of alternative spaces and not-for-profit organizations.
A fresh series of programming will complement the new tone of the fair. PULSE Perspectives, the fair’s daily round table discussions, will explore ideas within contemporary art and the art market. Led by prominent industry insiders, these conversations will grant fairgoers intimate and exclusive access to critical issues and current themes within the industry.
PULSE Play, a dedicated showcase for video and new media, returns as a platform to encourage discovery within the digital realm.
The PULSE Prize will expand to award an individual artist whose work is presented within a solo booth by a PULSE, IMPULSE or POINTS exhibitor, and will again be selected by an esteemed guest jury consisting of notable curators, collectors and influencers. PULSE Presents the 2014 PULSE Prize winner on Friday May 9th, from 6-9pm, with a celebratory event, drinks and performances.
